To create a landscape-scale native woodland in keeping with its surroundings.
Our aim is to design a woodland to sequester carbon from the atmosphere and provide a valuable habitat for wildlife through the creation of woodland and through connected open spaces. We hope that Muckrach Forest would become a place for both local wildlife and communities to enjoy.
We will create a naturalistic mixture of native Scots pine and broadleaved woodland balancing woodland cover and carbon sequestration, with the desire for a structurally diverse, ecologically functioning woodland sitting amongst well connected areas of open space.
Muckrach Forest will be for everyone. We want the local community and visitors to Muckrach to enjoy the space, adding to a sense of wellbeing in the local community and providing a place for them to connect with their landscape and nature. Part of the design process has been identifying the best ways for visitors to experience the Forest, by promoting routes to viewpoints throughout the landscape with stunning views south to the Cairngorms and across the site.
